Interesting animal facts

On this page the NNM is going to start posting a few facts and a link to a video for one particular species every post the first one we will do will probably be my favourite social insects the termite we then may move onto other incredible species such as archer fish salmon and the bearded dragon!
1.Termites
Termite facts

  • The biggest species of termite is the Hawaiian termite nearly 1.5 inches long!!
  • Termites are the only social insects not to have evolved from ants they evolved from cockroaches

2. Archer fish
    • The archer fish is called so because of the way it hunts,when a fly lands on an overhanging branch the archer fish takes aim and then fires a accurate jet of water from its mouth knocking the fly into the water at which point the archer fish then eats it
    • When archer fishes are young (and less accurate) they hunt in schools all firing at the same time increasing the likeness that at least one jet will hit the target
